Christy Mackaness

Christy Mackaness, born on Montserrat, West Indies, moved to the USA at age 4. At age 8 she followed in her mother's footsteps and started riding at a local stable on Johns Island, SC. At age 10 her mother sent her to Aiken, SC to ride with advanced international eventer Lellie Ward. There she rode countless horses of all skill levels and learned the core principles of safety, balance, and control as well as how to manage a full working stable.

Christy's first big competitive mount came in 1993 from a horse her mother got off the track as a 4 yr old named Whirling Stono. They learned together developing from the beginning to active young rider competitors at the preliminary level. Sadly, in 1997 when trying to qualify for their first one-star event, she lost Whirling to a tragic accident. Faced with starting all over, Christy found herself spending a lot of time training and catch riding whatever she could get on. She graduated from the College of Charleston in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Minor in Health. In 2005 she also bought her next prospect, Kingpin, whom she is now actively competing at the preliminary level. Christy is always looking for her next prospect and is actively seeking owners to help her achieve the dream of competing internationally at the 4-star level.

In 2010 she started CMackaness Eventing LLC & Kingsport Enterprises LLC and now teaches, trains, and competes professionally out of a private farm on Johns Island. In the fall of 2010 she started Tidelands Dressage & Combined Test. A local schooling horse show she hopes to develop into a USEA recognized horse trials. She enjoys teaching and helping students find confidence & ability through knowledge. She also accepts horses in training and enjoys working with difficult and young horses.
